영국에서 태어나 한국을 오가며 언어에 대한 어려움이 시작되면서 시각언어로 표현하는 것이 저에게는 당연했습니다. 페인팅 자체 행위, 몰입하는 시간에 대한 행복감을 갖고 작업에 임합니다.
최근 3년간 작업들은 빛, 무지개, 별을 소재로 삼아 스스로 자연의 이미지로 이입하여 환각적으로 재구성하여 이미지 안에서 희망을 찾으려는 작업을 하고 있습니다. 저의 모든 작업은 자연에서 영감을 받고 자연이 자라나는 방식으로 표현됩니다.
제가 그리는 이미지들은 저의 경험에서 비롯되며 실제 존재하지 않는 공간들을 여러차례 배치하며 긴장감을 주기도 합니다.
모든 작업물 안에는 저의 자서전적인 요소들이 담겨 있으며, 그림 안에서 일어나는 저의 선택, 시간 그리고 결정들은 모두 또 다시 저의 경험이 됩니다.
계획된 절차를 따르며 스케치를 그리고 완성하는 그림과 다르게 저는 자연의 방식으로 그림을 완성합니다.
마지막 완성작에서 보이지 않아도 흙을 다지고, 풀을 심습니다.
저는 관람자로 하여금 희망, 평온, 풍요를 주고 싶습니다.
Born in the UK and having moved between the UK and Korea, I naturally turned to visual language as a means of expression when linguistic challenges arose. The very act of painting—and the joy I find in the immersive process—grounds my practice.
Over the past three years, my work has centered around elements such as light, rainbows, and stars. Through these, I project myself into images of nature, hallucinatorily reconfiguring them in search of hope within the imagery. All of my work is inspired by nature and unfolds in the manner that nature itself grows.
The images I depict stem from personal experiences and often depict unreal, imagined spaces layered in ways that evoke tension.
Autobiographical elements are embedded in every piece, and each choice, moment, and decision made within the painting becomes part of my ongoing experience.
Unlike a planned process that begins with a sketch and moves toward a fixed end, my paintings follow the rhythms of nature. Even if not visible in the final work, I till the soil and plant the grass.
Through this, I hope to offer viewers a sense of hope, serenity, and abundance.
