모든 생명은 태어날 때부터 움직임인다. 살아있다. 움직이지 않으면 죽음이다.
나는 움직임의 개념이 곧 ‘살아있음’이라고 굳게 믿고 있다. 움직임은 꾸준하다. 절대 불성실하지 않으며, 농땡이 피우는 법이 없다. 세상의 움직임은 그렇게 끊임없이 각각의 순리대로 움직이고, 그 순환이 멈추면 순리의 멈춤도 일어난다.

어렸을 적 나는 의지와 목적 이 없는 숨쉬기에 살아가는 일반적인 사람과 다르지 않았다. 차가운 철에 나의 손으로 생명을 불어넣었던 경험을 하고 난 뒤에 나는 새롭게 다시 태어났다. 오직 생명만이 움직인다고 느껴왔고, 생명만이 그 고귀한 움직임을 가질 수 있다고 생각했다. 아니었다. 나의 손에서 탄생한 움직이는 설치작품은 내가 탄생시킨 대로 꾸준히 움직였다. 움직임의 범위는 너무나 넓어서 그것의 한계를 설정하는 것 자체가 도전이다. 어디까지 움직여야 할지, 무슨 움직임을 가지게 해줄지 선택하는 것 자체의 매 순간이 기쁨이다.
작품에 움직임을 알려줄 때에는 그것에게 생명을 불어넣어 준 부모의 마음으로 하나하나 자세히 알려주고 싶고, 잘 못 움직이면 교정하여 다시 알려주고 제대로 움직이게 하고 싶다.

기계공학과 생명이라는 거대한 개념의 결합은 나에겐 끊임없이 넓혀져가는 우주와 같다. 그래서 공학을 공부하면 서 더욱 그 순리에 대하여 깊이 느끼게 되었다. 우주의 모습은 우리와 닮아있어 언제나 새로 태어나고 움직인다. 세상의 순리가 움직이듯이, 나의 미술에 대한 열정 역시 끊임없이 움직인다.
멈추지 않으면 살아있듯이 나의 예술은 끊임없이 살아있을 것이다.



All life begins with movement. To live is to move. Absence of movement is death.
I firmly believe that movement itself is the essence of being alive. Movement is steady. It is never insincere, never slacks off. The world moves endlessly, each part in accordance with its own rhythm—and if that circulation stops, the natural order halts as well.

As a child, I was no different from anyone else—living, breathing without intent or purpose. But the moment I breathed life into cold metal with my own hands, I was born anew. Until then, I believed only life could move, that only the living possessed such noble motion. I was wrong. The kinetic sculptures born from my hands moved faithfully, exactly as I intended.

The realm of movement is vast—so vast that defining its boundaries is itself a challenge. Deciding how far something should move, what kind of motion to imbue it with—each of these choices brings joy.
When I teach movement to my works, I do so like a parent giving life to a child—gently, attentively, thoroughly. If the motion falters, I correct it, teach it again, and set it right.

The union of mechanical engineering and life is, to me, like an ever-expanding universe. The more I studied engineering, the more deeply I felt the harmony of the cosmos.
The form of the universe resembles us—it is always being born anew, always moving. Just as the natural world flows on, my passion for art continues to move without pause.
And so long as I do not stop, my art will remain alive—endlessly, vibrantly alive.
