"순환하며 흐르는 물은 흔적을 만들고, 그 흔적은 길이 된다."
물의 반복되는 순환은 자연의 리듬을 형성하고, 모든 생명체가 지속적으로 존재할 수 있도록 새로운 길을 만들어낸다. 나는 물이 만들어내는 흔적(길)과 그것을 바라보는 감각을 통해 자연의 변화를 작품에 기록한다.
작업은 물이 흘러가며 남긴 흔적을 통해, 우리가 자연을 바라보는 시각을 확장하려는 시도이다. 물의 흐름 속에서 우리의 시간을, 환경을, 그리고 그 속에서 우리가 놓치고 있는 작은 변화를 발견하려 한다. 그것은 물이 자연에 미치는 영향과 그 순환을 추적하는 과정과도 같다. 물이 흐르며 만들어내는 자연의 변화를 감각적으로 포착하고, 그 변화를 시간과 공간의 흐름 속에서 기록하는 것이다. 즉 물의 흐름 속에서 생명의 시작과 끝을 목격하고, 그 과정에서 피어나고 사라지는 순간들이 흔적을 남기며 새로운 길이 만들어지는 과정을 채록자의 시각으로 바라본다.
작품은 물의 형태가 시간에 따라 변화하는 모습을 각기 다른 계절과 환경 속에서 추적한다. 그것은 물이 지나간 길을 따라가며 그 궤적을 기록함과 같다.
물은 언제나 스스로 낮은 곳을 찾아가며, 그 흐름은 한 곳에 머물지 않고 끊임없이 순환하고 흔적을 남긴다. 물이 지난 자리에는 계절과 환경에 따라 생성과 소멸이라는 서로 다른 자취가 생긴다. 그 흔적은 물질적인 것뿐만 아니라, 시간과 공간이 변화하는 모습을 담고 있다. 이 자취들은 눈에 보이기도 하지만 인식하지 못하는 변화를 말해주기도 한다. 단순히 흘러가며 증발하는 물이 아니라, 시간과 공간을 변화시키고 우리의 감각을 깨우치는 것이다.
물은 단순한 생명의 원천이 아니다. 그것은 모든 것을 이어주는 연결고리이자, 변화를 일으키는 힘이다. 봄의 단비는 마른 땅을 깨우고, 여름의 폭우는 강을 넘쳐흐르게 하며, 가을의 비는 무더운 여름을 식히고 낙엽과 함께 토양에 스며들어 흙이 된다. 한겨울, 얼어붙은 것 같은 물은 모든 것을 멈추게 한 것 같지만, 그 속에서 또 다른 변화가 준비되고 있다. 계절이 바뀔 때마다 물은 다른 모습으로 다가오고, 그 물의 변화는 우리가 시간을 느끼고, 공간을 인식하는 방식에 영향을 미친다.
이렇게 물의 흔적은 우리가 시간을 경험하고, 공간을 느끼는 방식에 영향을 미친다.
물과 함께 길은 변화하고, 그 길을 따라가는 우리의 시선은 자연을 어떻게 인식해야 하는지에 대한 중요한 질문을 던진다. 물은 단지 하나의 원소가 아닌, 우리가 존재하는 환경의 변화를 알려주는 중요한 지표이기 때문이다.
“Water that circulates and flows creates traces, and those traces become paths.”
The repeated circulation of water forms the rhythm of nature and creates new paths so that all living beings can continue to exist. Through the traces, the paths that water creates, and the sensations of looking at them, I record changes in nature in my work.
This work is an attempt to expand the way we view nature through the traces left by flowing water. Within the flow of water, I seek to discover our time, our environment, and the small changes we are missing within it. This is also like a process of tracing the influence of water on nature and its circulation. I sensorially capture the changes in nature that water creates as it flows, and record those changes within the flow of time and space. In other words, within the flow of water I witness the beginning and end of life, and from the viewpoint of a recorder, I observe the process in which moments that bloom and disappear leave traces and new paths are created.
The work traces how the form of water changes over time across different seasons and environments. This is like following the path water has passed and recording its trajectory.
Water always finds its way to lower ground, and its flow does not remain in one place but endlessly circulates and leaves traces. In the places water has passed, different marks of creation and disappearance arise depending on season and environment. Those traces contain not only material things, but also the ways time and space change. These marks can be visible, but they can also speak of changes that go unrecognized. Water is not simply something that flows and evaporates, it changes time and space and awakens our senses.
Water is not merely the source of life. It is a link that connects everything, and a force that brings about change. Spring rain awakens dry ground, summer downpours cause rivers to overflow, and autumn rain cools the sweltering summer and seeps into the soil with fallen leaves to become earth. In midwinter, water that seems frozen appears to stop everything, but another change is being prepared within it. Each time the seasons change, water approaches in a different form, and these changes in water affect how we feel time and recognize space.
In this way, the traces of water influence how we experience time and sense space.
Along with water, paths change, and our gaze following those paths poses an important question about how we should recognize nature. This is because water is not simply one element, but an important indicator that tells us about changes in the environment in which we exist.
