익명의 현대인을 캐릭터 ‘Mayo’마요(남자)와 ‘Mato’마토(여자)로 설정하고 우리 삶 속에서 경험할 수 있는 다양한 욕망의 모습에 주목한다. 그중 성적 욕망의 의미로 사용되는 ‘에로티즘(Erotism)’은 실상 인간의 거의 모든 문화적 행위의 기저에 있는 근원적 충동의 욕망이므로 나의 모든 작업에서 은근히 다뤄져 왔다. 이번 전시에는 ‘에로티즘’을 전면에 내세운 작업을 소개함으로써 관객이 자신의 색채를 새롭게 발견하는 경험이 되기를 바란다.

궁극적으로 내 모든 작업은 ‘무엇을 내가 욕망하는가?’ ‘주체적으로 내가 욕망하고 있는가?’ ‘어떤 오늘을 내가 살려 하는가?’라는 질문을 던진다.

우리의 삶 속에서 발생 되는 수많은 욕망을 찾는 과정이 탐험과 같은 짜릿함에 즐거움 한 방울이 더해지기를 희망하며, 자신만의 방식으로 욕망을 채워가는 것을 응원한다.



In my work, I personify the anonymous modern individual through two characters: Mayo, a man, and Mato, a woman. Through them, I examine the multifaceted nature of human desire as it surfaces in our everyday lives. Among these desires, erotism—often reduced to the realm of sexual longing—is, in truth, a primal impulse that underlies nearly all cultural expressions of humanity. For this reason, erotism has long lingered, quietly yet persistently, within the depths of my practice. In this exhibition, I bring erotism to the fore, hoping it offers each viewer an intimate opportunity to rediscover the hue of their own desire.

Ultimately, all my work begins with a question:
What is it that I truly desire?
Am I the one who is actively desiring?
What kind of today am I trying to live?
