- FOUNTAIN
인간의 내면은 다양한 경험들로부터 축적된 감정의 복합체이다. 감정을 드러내지 않고 이성적으로만 자신을 표현하는 사람은 결국 인간의 가면을 쓴 기계에 불과하다. 감정은 불규칙하게 뿜어져 나오는 간헐천이 아닌 땅속에서 끊임없이 스며나오는 마르지 않는 샘물처럼 자연스럽게 겉으로 드러나야만 분출이 아닌 표현이 될 수 있다.
나는 이러한 감정의 표현이 불편함이 아닌 자연스러운 낯설음을 통해 보여지면 좋겠다고 생각한다. 때론 낯설음과 불편함이 동의어처럼 쓰여질 때가 있다. 하지만 편안한 낯설음은 기분 좋은 새로움을 가져다 줄 수 있다. 인간의 본질에 대한 나의 생각은 이러한 낯선 새로움에 대한 감정적 사고로부터 시작된다. 나는 지식이 아닌 진리에 대해 표현하기를 원하고 변하지 않는 진리를 탐구하고 표현하는 것이 예술가가 해야 할 일이라고 믿는다. 본질은 진리이며, 진리는 영혼이고, 영혼은 생명이다.
- 현관 (玄關)
현관에는 여러 가지 뜻이 있다.
1. 건물의 출입문이나 건물에 붙이어 따로 달아낸 문간.
2. 큰 도시의 역이나 공항 또는 외국과 왕래가 잦은 도시나 항구를 비유적으로 이르는 말.
3. 깊고 묘한 이치에 드는 관문. 보통 참선으로 드는 어귀를 이른다.
현관의 현(玄)은 검다는 뜻도 있고 하늘이라는 뜻도 있다. 또한 아득하다, 오묘하다는 뜻도 가지고 있다. 관(關)은 관계하다는 뜻이다. 그래서 현관은 ‘아득한 관계’ 또는 ‘오묘한 관계’ 라는 뜻으로도 풀이가 된다. 건물에 있어서 현관은 출입문과 건물 사이의 공간을 말한다. 이 의미에서도 모호한 공간으로 자리한다. 문을 열고 경계를 지나는 순간 건물의 내부가 되는 것인데 현관이라는 공간이 있고 그 안이 다시 내부가 된다. 내부와 외부를 이어주지만 안과 밖 어디에도 속하지 않는 그런 공간이 현관이다. 건물의 현관이나 사람의 현관이나 생긴 모양은 가지각색이다. 하지만 들어갈 때는 항상 노크가 필요하다. 똑 똑
- FOUNTAIN
The human inner self is a complex accumulation of emotions formed by diverse experiences. A person who expresses themselves solely through reason, without revealing emotions, is no more than a machine wearing the mask of a human. Emotion, if not expressed naturally like an ever-flowing spring that seeps continuously from the ground, but rather erupts irregularly like a geyser, cannot be considered expression—it becomes an outburst. I hope that the expression of such emotions can be revealed not through discomfort, but through a natural unfamiliarity. There are times when unfamiliarity and discomfort are used as synonyms. However, a comfortable unfamiliarity can bring about a delightful sense of newness.
My thoughts on the essence of humanity begin with emotional reflection upon this unfamiliar newness. I wish to express not knowledge, but truth—and I believe that the pursuit and expression of unchanging truth is the task of an artist. Essence is truth, truth is soul, and soul is life.
- HYUNGWAN (玄關)
"Hyungwan" (玄關) has several meanings in Korean:
The entrance area of a building, or a separate foyer attached to a building’s main entry.
1. A doorway or vestibule attached to a building; a separate entrance space.
2. A figurative gateway such as a major station, airport, or a city/port with frequent international exchange.
3. A metaphysical or spiritual threshold, often referring to the entrance to deep enlightenment in Zen meditation.
The character “玄” (hyun) means black, but also signifies heaven. It can also imply distant, mysterious, or profound. The character “關” (gwan) means relation or connection. Therefore, “Hyungwan” can be interpreted as “a distant relation” or “a mysterious connection.” In architectural terms, the hyungwan is the space between the entrance door and the interior of a building. Even in this context, it occupies an ambiguous space. The moment one opens the door and crosses the boundary, it becomes the inside—but the hyungwan exists between, and the true interior lies beyond it. It connects the inside and outside, yet belongs to neither. Whether it is the entrance of a building or of a person, the shapes and designs vary widely. But one thing remains true: when entering, one must always knock. Knock knock.
